2008 Juror Veronica Ruland
The juror for this year’s show will be Veronica Ruland, a freelance photographer from Dallas. Veronica’s enjoyment is capturing images that make people stop and look at the details. So often we are in a rush going about our daily activities that we forget to look at the beauty around us. Veronica began college studying architecture at Texas Tech University, but when she switched over to photography, she did not leave that passion or eye for detail behind. She continued and moved her education to Sam Houston State University and received a BFA in Art-Photography. She has experience teaching middle school and high school art, and photographing in areas of portraiture, journalism, and commercial photography. Her main focus though is bringing fine art to people. She enjoys traveling and reminding people to stop and enjoy the small details that are around them whether it is in nature or man made. Since 2004, she has begun sharing her work and attending art shows and scheduling for gallery spaces in several Texas cities such as Lubbock, Austin, Dallas and its surrounding cities.
About this Show
In 1994 the West Texas Photographic Society of Lubbock chose to sponsor the only open show at the time in Lubbock, encouraging all area photographers to share their work with the community. Although the show is juried, and awards are made, the idea of competition should be secondary to the opportunity to exhibit. Photographers should choose their best three images and present them in such a way as to enhance the image.
Beginning this year, entrants may submit an electronic image of one entry for posting on our website.
About WTPSL
A small group of photographers on the South Plains organized to sponsor this show and to enjoy photography as a creative medium. Annual dues are $20. Members are permitted space on the website to present their images in a section devoted to Artists.
Pick up and Liability
The WTPSL will take all reasonable precautions to protect all works of art presented at the show. However, the artist must assume all risks for any damage or loss. We strongly urge you to pick up your work April 25.
