The WTPSL will hold a framing workshop at the Garden & Arts Center on March 14, 2009, 9AM-Noon.  Please attend if you would like information about framing choices and cutting an overmat. For more information, click here.

If you take your photograph to a framing shop, such as Uncommon Graphics, Frame Pro, Michael’s, or Frame Mart, simply tell them to use a wire hanging method, with the wire stretching from one side to the other.  They are professionals and understand the issues.

Some entrants who wish to be creative in their framing will glue the print onto a piece of aluminum, barn wood, canvas, or other flat surface, without glass on the front.  This is fine, as long as there is a wire on the back, and the wire is attached in such a way that it stretches sufficiently across the frame to allow easy leveling, and it will not pull off.

We regret that we cannot accept frames with certain types of hangers:  sawtooth, ring, and various custom hangers will not allow us to level the frame, and the use of tape will very often result in a frame’s falling onto the floor.  Acrylic box frames and glass panes with a board on the back are not acceptable.

An inexpensive wood frame will allow affixing an eyelet to each side and stringing a wire through them.  This will hold well and allows leveling.  Eyelets are available in framing kits.

Ready-made metal frames, such as those from Nielsen, also allow the frame
to hang from a wire, and this method is very strong and allows easy leveling
on the wall.
